APTN is pleased to announce its call for Aboriginal musicians to get involved with First Tracks 2012. This is an amazing opportunity for Canadian Aboriginal artists to have a music video produced and showcased in a one-hour special entitled First Tracks which will air nationally on APTN. The music videos will also stream on the APTN website.
APTN and/or its representatives will produce music videos for a song that is on a current or soon-to-be released album. First Tracks 2012 supports all genres of music videos in any Aboriginal language, English, and French.
First Tracks (originally known as Open Call) is an initiative to kick-start the production of music videos by Aboriginal artists. Since the program’s inception in 2007, APTN has invited Aboriginal musicians each year to submit songs for consideration. Five to eight artists are selected to have a music video produced for their song.
The videos produced have covered a wide range of musical genres, from country to punk, and from pop to instrumental. Musicians have been from all regions of Canada, and have included First Nations, Inuit and Métis artists.
Those who wish to apply can visit www.aptn.ca/firsttracks for complete information on how to apply. Canadian record companies, record producers, managers, and artists are all eligible to apply for their song to be considered for First Tracks 2012. Only one application per performer is eligible for review. Previously successful applicants for the Open Call/First Tracks program are not eligible to apply.
Apply to First Tracks 2012 starting on National Aboriginal Day, June 21, 2012. Applicants must send their completed packages to the APTN Winnipeg office by 5:00 PM Central Standard Time on July 31, 2012.
