APTN’s Acquisition Needs

APTN is looking for completed Canadian and international programs that have Aboriginal content, deal with Aboriginal issues and feature actors, directors or producers who are of Aboriginal descent. An Aboriginal person is defined to include First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples of Canada and includes Indigenous people from around the globe..

In addition, APTN occasionally requires special event programming for special occasions such as National Aboriginal Solidarity Day, Christmas or other seasonal holidays.

APTN also seeks acquisitions for its Short Cuts strand of programming, a block dedicated to showcasing short films from Indigenous filmmakers from around the world. Please contact acquisitions@aptn.ca for more information.

APTN acquires completed programs based on our current inventory and needs. There is no formal deadline for submissions.

APTN Acquisition Guidelines

In order to properly assess your program, we ask that you include most, if not all, of the following with the Acquisition Form

• Program title
• Year produced
• Episode and length
• Program description
• Genre
• Target audience
• Language & captioning
• Evidence of Canadian content if applicable (CRTC # or CAVCO certification). Please note that material under 5 minutes in length do not require a CRTC number
• Country of origin (foreign acquisitions)
• Errors and omissions insurance
• DVD Screener
• Broadcast history
• MPAA rating
• Awards

Guidelines for Interstitial Items under five minutes (including music videos):

• Do not require a CRTC # certificate
• Do not have to be closed-captioned (except for Canadian music videos in English or French)
• Require E&O insurance

Guidelines for Interstitial Items over five minutes:

• Requires a CRTC # certificate or CAVCO #
• Must be closed captioned if in English or French. If provided in an Aboriginal language the item must be subtitled in English or French
• Require E&O insurance

• Completed Acquisition Form
• 1 DVD screening copy
• One sheet
