Aboriginal Nations for Haitians

The largest recorded earthquake in Haiti's history hit the country on January 12, 2010.

The situation is devastating: the quake hit just miles from the densely populated capital of Port-au-Prince. Haiti has little to no means to help its population. Its economy is severely depressed and social services are practically non-existent after years of political strife. Nearly half the population of Haiti is under 18 years of age, 38 per cent are under the age of 14.

That's why First Nation and Métis Citizens of Manitoba are uniting to raise funds for the children of Haiti. The Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak, Manitoba Métis Federation, Southern Chiefs Organization and the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, along with NCI FM and APTN, have joined forces to help Haitian children affected by this disaster.

The Aboriginal Nations for Haitians Benefit Concert raised over $60,000, but UNICEF is still working hard to provide urgent support to children, women and families many of whom are without shelter, water, or other basic necessities.
