Around the world, indigenous communities have always had their shamans, healers, priest, doctors who have ministered to the spiritual, mental and physical health of their people. Though they may never have never been to medical school, these healers have studied the plants that treat disease, as well as the ceremonies and philosophies that create good health. In Guides and Gurus, a thirteen-part documentary series, we will meet these incredible experts. In the herbal gardens of Ireland, the remote deserts of Namibia and the jungles of Guatemala, the vast Saskatchewan prairie, the spectacular vistas of Navajo Land in the United States, the outback of Australia, the mountains of New Zealand and the jungles of Sri Lanka, traditional physicians will share their wisdom with us. Their advice will delivered in the context of stunning visuals. They will teach us about the plants and herbs that heal, the rituals that give us faith to battle our illnesses, and the subtle philosophies of holistic health that treat not just the body, but the mind and spirit.
