Segment 1: Preserving the Rainforest (Belize) The Ya'axche Conservation Trust is a community organization that promotes economically viable and ecologically sound development throughout southern Belize. The Trust promotes agro-forestry in the region and has many programs that teach farmers about sustainable agriculture. Art meets with managers of theTrust and local farmers and learns how they are working together to preserve Belize's rainforests and waterways while providing land for sustainable farming. Segment 2: Aboriginal Fishing Rights (Nuu-chah-nulth Nation) On November 3, 2009, the Supreme Court of British Columbia ruled that the Nuu-chah-nulth have the right to commercially harvest and sell fish and shellfish within their traditional territory. This was a significant victory for all Indigenous people in Canada. For the Nuu-chah-nulth people it meant a return to a way of life that they have enjoyed for countless generations. Art interviews Clifford Atleo, Sr., the president of the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council, on what this court decision means to the Nuu-chah-nulth Nation. Segment 3: UN Climate Change Conference - Indigenous Green Leaders Thousands of grassroots activists attended the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December 2009. In the final episode of the season, several Indigenous leaders who were at this international event speak out on the global warming crisis.
