Indigenous Language Production Executive

Highlights of this opportunity:
- Provides guidance, creative support, and supervision to producers which APTN has commissioned original programs from, with a portfolio focus on Indigenous Language programs;
- Liaises with producers, creative teams, and partner broadcasters on production projects;
- Commissions original programming based on Programming Department priorities, the APTN strategic plan and in accordance with the CRTC broadcast license;
- Manages APTN’s Indigenous language production intake & assists with the preparation of project plans and budgets;
- Manages the production and delivery of independently produced programs as well as Member Societies programming on an as-needed basis;
- Reviews, evaluates and recommends project proposals, makes content and financial decisions, & negotiates principle terms;
- Represents APTN at Production Industry Festivals, seminars and other opportunities for television industry outreach including funding agencies and viewers;
- Asserts Programming Department interests by receiving pitches, visiting production sets and production facilities;
- Approves all creative materials associated with development and production. E.g. Outlines, creative team changes, cuts, etc.
- Participates in speaking engagements, sources and scouts Indigenous talent, ensures compliance with funding bodies’ submission deadlines;
- Ensures that programming expenditures remain within budget limits, finance cash flow and approves invoices for every drawdown;
- Travel will be required.
Your accomplishments and experience include:
- Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline combined with proven related experience (production, communication or business);
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite;
- Passion for Indigenous language reclamation is an asset;
- This is not a bilingual position, but knowledge of an Indigenous language and/or French is an asset;
- Experience working with an Indigenous organization as well as knowledge of Indigenous cultural perspectives is an asset.
