About Inconvenient Indian
Inconvenient Indian dives deep into the brilliant mind of Thomas King, an Indigenous intellectual, master storyteller, and author of the bestselling book, The Inconvenient Indian. With his cab driver Coyote by his side, King takes us on a critical journey through the colonial narratives of North America and invites us to bear witness to the stories of Indigenous creators whose work disrupts these narratives. From traditional hunting and tattooing practices, to language revitalization, to Indigenous futures, these creators and their stories are all tied together by the land. Among the artist-activists, land protectors and hunters featured in Inconvenient Indian are Christi Belcourt, The Halluci Nation (formerly known as A Tribe Called Red), Alethea Arnaquq-Baril, Nyla Innuksuk, Carman Tozer, Steven Lonsdale and more. Together with King, they unpack hundreds of years of history, laying bare what has been extracted from the land, culture and peoples of Turtle Island. Their words and actions subvert the “inconvenience” of their existence, creating an essential new narrative and a possible path forward for us all.
